Qingyang Cocoon House
The cocoon house is located along the southern riverside of Qingyang Town. It was first built in early 1953. The structure consists of two sections—front and back—with walls made of blue bricks and exposed mortar. It integrates functions such as drying, storage, and moisture-proofing. Covering an area of 6,000 square meters with a built-up area of 2,200 square meters, it was one of the largest cocoon distribution centers in southern Jiangsu at the time.
Qingyang Town: Qingyang, anciently known as Qing?, was established as a township during the Northern Song Dynasty. With written records dating back over 1,700 years, it has a long history. Polished stone tools and black-glazed pottery from the Liangzhu culture, unearthed in the 1970s, indicate that as early as 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic Age, people had already settled and thrived here. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, due to its strategic location along important waterways, Qingyang flourished with the scene of “a thousand households bustling with life” and “vehicles and boats converging from all directions,” earning it the nickname “Little Wuxi.”
Qingyang covers a total area of 67.6 square kilometers with a population of 72,000. It is situated in China’s economically developed eastern coastal region—within the renowned Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou (Suzhou, Wuxi…) area. ++Detailed information about Qingyang Town++
