Century-old Ginkgo Tree

The ginkgo tree is located in the courtyard of the North Chenghuang Temple in Huanan Village, northeast of Qingyang Town. This ancient tree has a history of over 800 years. It stands 6 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of approximately 6 meters. At 1 meter above the ground, the trunk splits into two branches, hence also known as the Sister Trees. The eastern branch has a circumference of 1.75 meters, while the western branch measures 2.5 meters.

Qingyang Town: Known historically as Qing?, Qingyang was established as a township during the Northern Song Dynasty. With written records dating back more than 1,700 years, it has a long history. Polished stone tools and black pottery from the Liangzhu culture, unearthed in the 1970s, indicate that ancestors had settled and thrived here since the Neolithic Age, around 5,000 years ago. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties, due to its strategic location along major waterways, Qingyang flourished with “a thousand households” and “a convergence of boats and carts,” earning it the nickname “Little Wuxi.”

Qingyang covers a total area of 67.6 square kilometers and has a population of 72,000. It is situated in China’s economically developed eastern coastal region—famous for the Su-Xi-Chang (Suzhou, Wuxi…) area. More detailed information about Qingyang Town++
