The Cliff Inscriptions on Dawei Jian are a cultural relic protection unit of Lianyun District.

The Cliff Inscriptions on Dawei Jian are located at Dawei Jian, the main peak of Beiyuntai Mountain in Lianyun Subdistrict. To the north lies the Port of Lianyungang, to the south the range along Dalongding, Langwoding, and Wulonggou, to the west Erwei Jian and Weiping Mountain, and to the east the seashore. Perched high above with steep and strategic terrain, it was long garrisoned by troops.

The inscription surface of the Dawei Jian cliff carvings is 3.3 to 3.6 meters high and 9.25 meters wide, featuring the three characters “——” written horizontally. The carved groove is 8 cm deep and 47 cm wide. The characters are nearly 3 meters in size and rendered in regular script. It is said to have been personally inscribed by ——. —— (1876–1942), styled Junqing, was a native of Ninghe County, Hebei Province. In the early years of the Republic of China, he served as the “Haizhou Garrison Commander.” In 1928, he was appointed as a Major General Consultant to the Nationalist Government. To the west of this stone carving is the Naval Observation and Communication Station, and to the east and below is an Air Force Radar Station; it is said to be self-inscribed by ——. After the completion of the inscription, —— was very pleased and composed a quatrain: "The surging tides of the sea come and go, / Through rugged peaks there lies a path to climb. / Where bold brushstrokes leave their lasting trace, / The people cheer my name aloud with grace."

Lianyun Subdistrict: The Lianyun Subdistrict Office is situated at the Port of Lianyungang. Originally called Laoyao, it began to be known as Lianyun after 1933 (the 22nd year of the Republic of China), taking the first characters of “Lian Island” and “Yuntai Mountain,” symbolizing “a bustling port where sails and ships connect the clouds, and maritime trade flourishes.” The Longhai and Lanzhou-Xinjiang railways, vital arteries stretching across China from east to west, extend westward from here, making Lianyun Subdistrict the eastern bridgehead of the New Eurasian Land Bridge. In 2003, with approval from the Jiangsu Provincial Government, the former Lianyungang Town was abolished and Lianyun Subdistrict was established. In February 2005, the municipal government approved the merger with the former Ta’an Subdistrict to form the new Lianyun Subdistrict.
