Inscriptions on Tianzuo Cliff at Wolf Mountain

The inscriptions on Tianzuo Cliff at Wolf Mountain are a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The inscriptions on Tianzuo Cliff at Wolf Mountain are located beneath Tianzuo Rock on the northern foothills of Wolf Mountain in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province.

Also known as the "Inscription Slope," they were inscribed by Zhang Jian, the top scholar of the late Qing Dynasty. The site gets its name from the stone engravings left by Yao Cun during the Tianzuo era of the Five Dynasties, along with several inscriptions from the Song and Qing dynasties on the rocky slope. It is the oldest existing stone inscription in Nantong and holds significant reference value for studying the establishment of Nantong and the historical changes around Wolf Mountain before and after its development. The slope also features inscriptions from the Xining, Shaosheng, Chunyou, and Guangxu eras of the Song Dynasty. In 1995, it was designated as a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.
