Nantong Textile Museum

Nantong Textile Museum, also known as the "Textile Grand View Garden," is China's first specialized textile museum. Located near the ancient Wenfeng Pagoda in the southeastern part of Nantong city, it covers an area of nearly thirty acres. The entire complex consists of more than ten buildings with traditional Chinese architectural styles.

The museum is divided into a main building and an auxiliary building.

The main building has six exhibition halls. The front section is called "Highlights of Chinese Textiles," featuring primitive hand-weaving tools, ancient textile inventions, traditional handmade textile products, and top-quality textile goods. The rear section is titled "The Development of Textiles in Nantong," showcasing handmade coarse cloth, modern machine-based textile production, contemporary Nantong’s textile industry, and outstanding textile products.

The auxiliary building displays cotton fields, waterwheels, farmhouses, handmade textile dyeing workshops, cotton yarn and cloth shops, textile guildhalls, as well as scaled-down versions of the Dasheng Cotton Mill textile workshop founded by the patriotic industrialist Zhang Jian in the modern era and the Textile Department of Nantong University. Through a combination of static and dynamic exhibits, it reflects the interrelated textile economic, educational, and social landscape of urban and rural Nantong at the beginning of the 20th century.
