is located in the Yellow Sea, four nautical miles northeast of Dongzao Port in Haimen City. It is a natural amphibious biological island that emerges as a reef at high tide and an island at low tide, with an average elevation of 4.5 meters above sea level. It is formed by the accumulation of over 30 varying-sized oyster mounds, commonly known as Huangni Zao, Hongxi Dui, Da Ma’an, and Shiba Tiao.

Introduction

The island is rich in resources and quite unique, especially renowned for its abundant oyster production, hence the name Lüya Mountain. Local fishermen often refer to it as Lüya Dui.

Lüya Mountain is an oyster reef that has emerged in a vast expanse of silt — a phenomenon rarely seen, as biological reefs typically grow on stones, sluice gates, or other hydraulic structures. Such a reef formed in silt is unprecedented and unrecorded in relevant scientific literature. Experts believe this puzzling and extraordinary marine wonder provides a rare reference point for studying paleoceanographic changes in mid-latitude regions over the past 20,000 years. It leaves many questions unanswered and is worthy of in-depth research. It holds significant value for developing and promoting marine science knowledge, exploring marine geology, climate, biological changes, and for eco-tourism.
