The Nantong Science and Technology Museum is a science education base.

The Nantong Science and Technology Museum was built and opened to the public in 2001, becoming the first municipal-level science museum in the province. Over the years, the museum has consistently adhered to a public welfare-oriented approach. Through its permanent exhibitions and various short-term thematic displays, as well as by organizing science lectures, science competitions, and activities, it promotes the spirit of science, popularizes scientific knowledge, disseminates scientific thinking and methods, advocates spiritual civilization, and has become an excellent venue for citizens—especially young students—to acquire knowledge, update their understanding, experience science, and feel its wonder. It serves as an important window for science outreach in the city and a key platform for promoting spiritual civilization. The museum is recognized as a science education base for over ten schools in Nantong, and has been designated by national, provincial, and municipal authorities as: “National Quality Education Demonstration Base,” “National Science Education Base,” “National Robotics Education and Training Center,” “Jiangsu Province Science Education Base,” “Jiangsu Province Environmental Education Base,” “Jiangsu Province Youth Off-Campus Activity Demonstration Base,” “Nantong City Patriotic Education Base,” and “Nantong City Quality Education Base.” Former leaders and renowned scientists such as Wang Zhan, then Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, Cheng Donghong, then member of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Xu Yaoxin, then Party Group Secretary (Executive Vice Chairman) of the Jiangsu Provincial Association for Science and Technology, Wang Yusheng, then Director of the China Science and Technology Museum, and academicians Wu Weizu and Yang Jinzong, have all visited the museum and spoke highly of it.

The museum’s exhibition hall, spanning over 2,500 square meters, houses nearly 100 exhibits that combine scientific content, fun, and interactivity. By integrating sound, light, electricity, information technology, and other high-tech means, these exhibits engage visitors in hands-on exploration. Themed areas such as the “Children’s Theme Exhibition Area,” “Internet+ Exhibition Area,” “Robot Service Exhibition Area,” “Basic Science Exhibition Area,” “Environmental Protection Exhibition Area,” “Life and Health Exhibition Area,” as well as youth innovation studios like the “Lu Ban Workshop” and “Robot Studio,” fully embody the museum’s educational philosophy: “I see and I forget, I hear and I remember, I do and I understand.” A wide range of regular science activities are designed to cultivate young people’s innovative thinking, hands-on experimental skills, and research-based learning abilities.
