Nancheng Bieye

Nancheng Bieye is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province.

Nancheng Bieye is located at No. 1 Huancheng South Road in Nantong city center. Built in 1902, it was the former residence of Zhang Kang, the elder brother of Zhang Jian. The building faces south and has a concave-shaped floor plan, enclosed by brick walls at the front and back to form a courtyard. It features European-style architecture, with three stories, exposed brick walls, and small tiles. The corridors are paved with colored ceramic tiles, and the outer sides of the upstairs and downstairs corridors are supported by square exposed brick columns holding up exposed brick arches. The upper parts of the exterior doors and windows are built with machine-made red bricks in arc shapes, with bas-relief floral decorations beneath the arches. The upper parts of the interior doors are built with machine-made red bricks in flat arches. It has now been incorporated into the Nantong City Museum.

In March 2019, Nancheng Bieye was included in the eighth batch of cultural heritage sites protected at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province.
