The Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery and the Linxi Cottage

The Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery and the Linxi Cottage is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery and the Linxi Cottage are located in front of Dizhu Rock at the northern foot of Langshan Mountain in Nantong, by the side of Hushan River. Constructed in 1917, the Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery is a three-story small building with east and west wing rooms. It is part of the Langshan Guanyin Temple built by Zhang Jian, primarily functioning as a dedicated space for collecting and displaying various statues of Guanyin. The Linxi Cottage is a villa-style building constructed by Zhang Jian in the garden at the northern foot of Langshan Mountain. It is situated to the west of the Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery, built along the water, with an L-shaped floor plan, brick-and-wood structure, and surrounded by corridors. Both the Linxi Cottage and the Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery feature window and door decorations as well as interior components that reflect the architectural style transitioning from traditional Chinese forms to Western styles at the time, possessing certain research value and reference significance.

On June 5, 2006, the Building of Zhao’s Paintings and Shen’s Embroidery and the Linxi Cottage were announced as part of the sixth batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangsu Province.
