China Philanthropy Museum in Nantong

The China Philanthropy Museum is a national-level thematic museum on philanthropy, approved in name by the General Office of the State Council, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Jiangsu Provincial Government, and specifically constructed by the Nantong Municipal Government. The museum is located on the former site of Dasheng Cotton Mill, founded by Mr. Zhang Jian—the top imperial scholar of the late Qing Dynasty, a renowned modern philanthropist, and the founder of China’s first public museum. The museum covers a construction area of approximately 16,000 square meters, with a total investment of about 190 million yuan. It consists of a permanent exhibition area, a temporary exhibition area, and other supporting service areas, all equipped with comprehensive functional facilities. The museum officially opened on September 1, 2016. The China Philanthropy Museum is committed to its mission of “bridging past and present to promote philanthropy,” striving to become a showcase window, educational classroom, exchange platform, and research base for Chinese philanthropic culture, contributing to the healthy development of the philanthropy sector.
