Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Nanjing Road in Shanghai is the city's most bustling and prosperous commercial street, acclaimed as "China's No. 1 Commercial Street." It features hundreds of modern shopping malls, traditional Chinese brand stores, and specialty shops, making Nanjing Road the country’s largest retail goods distribution center and commercial information center, attracting over a million visitors every day.

At night, the entire stretch of East Nanjing Road lights up in dazzling colors. With its magnificent architecture, dense array of shops, vibrant street life, and brilliant nightlife, Nanjing Road lives up to its reputation as "China's No. 1 Commercial Street." In 1999, this "No. 1 Commercial Street" was transformed into China’s first all-weather pedestrian street.

The first phase of the 1,033-meter-long Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street stretches from Henan Middle Road to Tibet Middle Road, featuring an asymmetrical design. On the slightly northern side of the straight road, there is an ever-present "Golden Belt" that runs the entire length, housing various flower stands, bus shelters, and more. Bathed in the setting sun, the Golden Belt resembles a colorful and dynamic film. Meanwhile, the commercial layout of Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street has also been revamped, putting an end to the era of cookie-cutter stores.

Flagship stores such as Shanghai No. 1 Department Store, Hualian, and New World continue to retain their role as comprehensive department stores, while other buildings have evolved into specialized commercial towers with “one store, one specialty.” Additionally, the pedestrian street has greatly expanded its dining, leisure, and entertainment offerings, developing into a district characterized by “elegance in the east, specialization in the middle, and vibrancy in the west.”

Transportation

1. Metro

Take Metro Line 1, 2, or 8 to People’s Square Station, exit from Exit 6, then walk through the underground passage of the sunken plaza to reach the western starting point of the pedestrian street

Take Metro Line 2 or 10 to Nanjing East Road Station, exit from Exit 1, 2, or 4, and you will be at the eastern starting point of the pedestrian street

2. Bus

Take bus routes 20, 37, 330, or 921 to Jiujiang Road Huanghe Road Station, walk about 100 meters east to the sunken plaza, cross the underground passage, and you’ll reach the western starting point of the pedestrian street

You can take Urban Sightseeing Tour Route 1 and get off at New World City (west side of the pedestrian street) or at Henan Middle Road (east side of the pedestrian street). Alternatively, take Metro Line 1, 2, or 8 to People’s Square Station, exit from Exit 6, then walk through the underground passage of the sunken plaza to reach the western starting point of the pedestrian street

Take Metro Line 2 or 10 to Nanjing East Road Station, exit from Exit 1, 2, or 4, and you will be at the eastern starting point of the pedestrian street
