Shanghai Chen Yi Square (Chen Yi Statue) is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a classic red tourism site.

Chen Yi Square is situated on the Bund along East Nanjing Road in Shanghai, with a statue of Chen Yi, the first mayor of New China’s Shanghai Municipality, standing in the center. A century ago, this was the site of a commemorative bronze statue of Sir Harry Smith Parkes, the British Consul-General in China.

At the end of the ten-mile-long East Nanjing Road stands Chen Yi Square, where the statue of Chen Yi, the first mayor of New China’s Shanghai Municipality, proudly stands. The square was built to commemorate Shanghai’s first mayor, Chen Yi, and has now become a popular tourist attraction in the city. The Chen Yi statue faces south and is situated in Chen Yi Square.

- The statue is cast in bronze, standing 5.6 meters tall, with a base made of polished red granite that is 3.5 meters high. The sculpture captures Comrade Chen Yi in a typical posture while inspecting his work, depicting him as a diligent public servant who has endured long journeys, as well as an approachable and humble military leader. Every weekend, a grand and lively open-air concert is held in front of the statue.

Chen Yi Square Fountain: Located on the Bund along East Nanjing Road, to the south of the Chen Yi statue. It features a modern fountain design with a square outer ring and an elliptical inner circle. Water jets vary in height with sound, and colored lights installed at the bottom of the pool create red, yellow, blue, and green beams that dance with the lights at night, adding a magnificent glow to the Bund’s evening scenery.

Familiar visitors to the Bund have noticed something new: a new biographical plaque has been added next to the statue of Chen Yi, the most famous sculpture on the Bund, which has stood there for 19 years. The plaque was installed just last weekend to help visitors learn more about Chen Yi, Shanghai’s former mayor and a marshal of the People's Republic of China.

Chen Yi (August 26, 1901 – January 6, 1972), whose given name was Shijun and courtesy name Zhonghong, was from Lezhi, Sichuan. He was an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, a tested and loyal communist fighter, a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, military strategist, diplomat, and poet. He was one of the founders and leaders of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, a marshal of the People's Republic of China (one of the Ten Marshals), and an eminent leader of the Party and the country. He was also the first mayor of Shanghai in New China.
