Dajing Guan Yu Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Dajing Guan Yu Temple is located on Dajing Road in Nanshi. Originally the northern arrow platform of the west gate of Shanghai’s ancient city wall, it was converted into a temple dedicated to Guan Yu during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, and has since undergone several renovations. Guan Yu (162?–220), of Han ethnicity, was born during the Yanxi era of Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty. His style name was Yunchang, originally Changsheng, and he was a native of Xie District, Hedong (present-day Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province). A renowned general of the Shu Han kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period, he held the rank of General of the Vanguard, was granted the title Marquis of Hanshou Ting, and was a celebrated military strategist. After his death, he was venerated by the people and honored by successive imperial courts, eventually being worshipped as Guan Sheng Di Jun (the Divine Lord Guan), referred to as Sangharama Bodhisattva in Buddhism, and respectfully called “Guan Gong.” Later rulers revered Guan Yu as the “Military Sage,” placing him on par with Confucius, the “Cultural Sage.”
