Shanghai Book City is a Shanghai municipal cultural heritage site and a patriotic education base.

Shanghai Book City is located on Fuzhou Road, a century-old cultural street, and is one of the ten major cultural landmarks in Shanghai. In January 2003, it was designated as a “Shanghai Patriotic Education Base” by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

Shanghai Book City has a total construction area of over 39,830 square meters and a business area of more than 10,000 square meters. It houses seven exhibition areas: Lifestyle & Leisure, Literature & History, Humanities & Education, Cultural Education, Science & Technology, Audiovisual & Video, and Art Collections. It offers over 300,000 types of books, audiovisual products, and electronic publications. Each year, Shanghai Book City welcomes nearly 5 million visitors, including nearly 1.5 million young readers. The third floor features a special section for ideological and moral education for minors; the sixth floor includes a dedicated shelf for safeguarding the legal rights and interests of youth and a children’s corner; the seventh floor also houses a lecture hall and an auditorium, serving as venues for quality education programs for young people. These spaces regularly host academic lectures, knowledge seminars, and live author meet-and-greets. Shanghai Book City consistently organizes patriotic-themed educational activities, using the glass display windows on the first floor for thematic promotion to create a strong cultural and educational atmosphere. Leveraging its status as a patriotic education base, it holds various youth education events, irregularly hosts new book recommendation sessions, and brings classic works by renowned authors into schools. Shanghai Book City has become one of the important places where young people can acquire new knowledge and continuously improve their own quality.
