Shanghai Public Security Museum

The Shanghai Public Security Museum is a national AA-level tourist attraction, as well as a science education base and a patriotic education base.

The Shanghai Public Security Museum is China’s first thematic museum dedicated to public security. It officially opened to the public on September 11, 1999. The museum consists of twelve sections: the History of Public Security Hall, the Hall of Martyrs, the Team Building Hall, the Criminal Investigation Hall, the Public Order Management Hall, the Traffic Management Hall, the Prison and Detention House Hall, the Fire Control Management Hall, the Police Equipment Hall, the Police Exchange Hall, the Fire Simulation and Drill Hall, and the Scenario-based Interactive Shooting Hall. The museum documents over a century of historical development since the establishment of the police force in Shanghai in 1854. It highlights the achievements of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau in crime fighting, safeguarding construction, and maintaining stability since its founding on June 2, 1949. The museum houses a collection of more than 18,000 Chinese and foreign items related to public security (police) from the late Qing Dynasty to the present, including 49 (sets) of national first-class cultural relics. Since its opening, the museum has been designated by relevant authorities as a “National Civilized Unit,” “National Second-Class Museum,” “National Youth Self-Protection Education Base,” “National Youth Science and Technology Education Base,” “National Science Education Base,” “National Fire Science Education Base,” “Shanghai Patriotic Education Base,” “Shanghai Volunteer Service Base,” and has won the seventh Shanghai “Magnolia Award for Children’s Work.”
