The former residence of Mei Lanfang is a four-story Spanish-style house facing south, located at No. 87 Sinan Road. The fourth floor was where Mei’s mother-in-law and daughter lived, while the couple resided on the third floor. The second floor housed the sons’ bedrooms and the kitchen, and the ground floor contained the garage and servants’ quarters. In those days, the modest yet cozy building was always surrounded by many flowers and plants, and there was a lush green lawn in the front yard, exuding tranquility and comfort.

During his time living on Sinan Road, Mei Lanfang staged plays such as "Resisting the Jin Invaders" and "The Hatred of Life and Death."

Mei Lanfang (1894.10.22–1961.8.8) was born on October 22, 1894, in Beijing, with ancestral roots in Taizhou, Jiangsu. He was a master of Chinese Peking Opera performance.

Mei Lanfang came from a family of traditional opera performers. He began studying opera at age 8, learned the role of Qingyi (a type of female role) from Wu Lingxian at age 9, and made his stage debut at age 10. Later, he studied Huadan (another female role type) under Qin Zhifen and Hu Ergeng. From April 1915 to September 1916, he newly staged 11 plays including "The Tides of Officialdom," "Prison Lovers," and "Sifan."
