Shanghai Nine-Turn Bridge

The Nine-Turn Bridge is located in Shanghai's Yu Garden. In reality, it is a Seven-Turn Bridge — there are only seven turns from the pond’s edge to the central Lake Heart Pavilion. The bridge is known as the "Nine-Turn" due to its winding path with many curves, and each bend varies in angle, with some greater than 90 degrees and others less. The current bridge surface is paved with granite slabs, with a seasonal flower carved on each slab at every turn — such as narcissus for January, apricot blossom for February, peach blossom for March… all the way to wintersweet for December. Additionally, a lotus flower is carved on the slabs at both the beginning and end of the bridge. On the section of the bridge in front of the Lake Heart Pavilion Teahouse, a lotus flower is carved in the center, with colorful clouds carved at each of the four corners. In the pond, a white marble statue of the Lotus Fairy stands gracefully, smiling as it welcomes visitors.

When visiting the City God Temple, you shouldn’t miss strolling along the winding Nine-Turn Bridge, admiring the koi fish beneath and the Lake Heart Pavilion nearby — whether taking photos or feeding the fish, it’s a delightful experience.
