Attraction Description

The entire museum covers an area of 367.2 square meters, with a construction area of 513.9 square meters. It is built based on the model of a single household unit in a 1920s alleyway neighborhood and features seven main exhibition rooms: the living room, study, elderly person’s room, master bedroom, daughter’s room, son’s room, and kitchen. The visit is structured around the story of a Shikumen family. It not only showcases Shanghai's unique Shikumen architectural culture and recreates the living spaces and lifestyles of Shanghainese people at that time, but also introduces the concept and redevelopment process of the Shanghai Xintiandi project.

All the displayed items in the exhibition rooms — be it the stove, children’s textbooks, lipstick, or ashtrays — are authentic relics from 1920s and 1930s Shikumen alleyways.
