Wan Yi Fang Alley

Wan Yi Fang was funded and built by the French-sponsored International Savings Society and completed in 1932. In Wan Yi Fang Alley, you can slowly appreciate Shanghai’s “Haipai” architectural style, which blends Western residential culture with local living concepts in its design—emphasizing form and aesthetic appeal without excessive ornamentation, while incorporating more structures suitable for Shanghai’s climate. No. 54 of Wan Yi Fang was the former residence of Chinese journalist and publisher Zou Taofen, who lived here for six years. It now serves as the Zou Taofen Memorial Hall. Female anti-Japanese secret agent Zheng Pingru also once lived here, and CCTV10’s "People" documentary series even made a film about her.
