The majestic Nanpu Bridge is one of the symbols of Shanghai’s urban development and a vivid patriotic teaching material reflecting the tremendous changes brought about by the city’s reform and opening-up. In 1994, the first public square flag-raising and lowering platform in the city was built at Yuangong Square of Nanpu Bridge. Since then, dozens of primary and secondary schools in the surrounding area have established flag teams that take turns raising and lowering the flag, making it an excellent venue for patriotic education and social practice activities. Open to the public free of charge.
