Opened to traffic on December 1, 1991, Nanpu Bridge has a total length of 8,346 meters, with a main span of 423 meters, main towers standing 150 meters tall, and a main bridge deck featuring six lanes that are 30.5 meters wide. It ranks second among cable-stayed bridges of its type worldwide. The construction of the bridge vividly reflects the remarkable achievements of Shanghai’s reform and opening-up. The “Bridge History Exhibition Room,” located beside the main tower on the Puxi side, focuses on introducing the construction process of Nanpu Bridge and displays models of some famous bridges around the world. In June 2001, it was designated as a “Huangpu District Patriotic Education Base” by the Huangpu District Committee and District Government, and is open to the public free of charge.
