Nanjing Road is a microcosm of Shanghai’s development and transformation in modern times. The exhibition “A Glimpse at the Commercial Street — A Brief History of Nanjing Road” condenses over 150 years of revolutionary struggle and construction history on Nanjing Road. It is divided into four sections: “A History of Humiliation,” “Struggles Written in Blood,” “The Dawn of a New Era,” and “An Ode to Spring.” Through abundant historical materials and the use of photographs, physical models, lighting, and modern electronic systems, the exhibition showcases the dramatic history of Nanjing Road since 1842. It reflects the awakening and maturation of the Chinese working class, the heroism of communists and patriotic soldiers, presents a panoramic view of the Shanghai people's fight against imperialism and feudalism, and recreates the overwhelming might of the People’s Liberation Army liberating Shanghai.
