The sculpture group in Tongyi Residential Community is situated within the Tongyi Residential Community in Lane 479, West Nanjing Road, People's Square Subdistrict. It was built in November 1998. The community covers an area of about 7,000 square meters, with 780 households, and was constructed in the 1930s as a typical modern alleyway neighborhood. On the walls of the Shikumen houses on both sides, a series of bas-reliefs depict 10 historical scenes from old Shanghai, including the former Racecourse, the site of the Second Congress of the Left-Wing League, Energy Storage Middle School, the former Secret Printing House of the CPC Central Committee, the former office of China Youth magazine, the contact station of the New Fourth Army Shanghai Office, the former site of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the former residence of Ren Bishi, the Former Site of the All-China Soviet Areas Congress, the Memorial Monument to the May 30th Movement, and the Patriotic School. Information plaques provide brief introductions to these sites, aiming to educate future generations to learn from history, keep their aspirations clear, and carry forward the legacy. The sculpture group is open to the public free of charge.
