Nanjing Grand Theatre is a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai.

Nanjing Grand Theatre

Now known as the Shanghai Concert Hall, it is located at 523 East Yan'an Road. Built in the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930), it covers an area of 1,381 square meters, with a construction area of 3,800 square meters and two stories. It was constructed on leased land by Yiyi Co., Ltd., organized by He Tingran and others, and designed by Zhao Shen of the Fan Wenzhao Architectural Firm. The building features a frame structure.

The central entrance hall has a grand spiral staircase, surrounded by a covered gallery decorated with marble. The auditorium is bell-shaped with a relatively high flat ceiling. The front row of the orchestra pit reflects minimal sound, contributing to excellent acoustics. The interior of the auditorium is adorned with column decorations and ancient Greek floral motifs. The exterior is finished with washed stone and glazed red bricks, giving it a majestic appearance. In 1951, it was renamed Beijing Cinema. In 1959, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and to meet the needs of the music industry, the cinema underwent major renovations and was transformed into the Shanghai Concert Hall. Designed by Fan Wenzhao, a renowned Chinese architect, it is one of the examples of Western classical architectural style. To accommodate the widening of the Yan'an Elevated Road, the Shanghai Concert Hall began its relocation project at 10:00 AM on April 15, 2003. The project cost 50 million RMB: first, the building was lifted 1.7 meters on-site, then moved 66.46 meters south, and finally lifted another 1.68 meters at the new location. On January 1, 2005, the relocation was completed, and the Shanghai Concert Hall reemerged with a brand-new look.

It was designated as a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai in 1989.
