The Xin Xin Company Building is a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai.

Xin Xin Company Building

It is now the Shanghai No. 1 Food Store, located at 720 East Nanjing Road. Built in the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925), it covers a land area of 4,280 square meters with a total floor space of 22,032 square meters. The building has six floors above ground and one underground, was designed by the Hongda Foreign Firm, and constructed by the United Construction Company. It features a reinforced concrete frame structure.

The exterior of the building is simply designed. The ground floor along East Nanjing Road was converted into an arcade after the liberation. Above the southern main entrance on the sixth floor, there is a two-story square tower, and single-story pavilions are located at both corner turns. In addition to the main entrance facing East Nanjing Road, the store also has a rear entrance to the north, as well as four side doors and three corner doors.

The store is one of the “Four Great Department Stores” on Nanjing Road and is now the largest comprehensive food retail store in Shanghai, as well as a nationally renowned food store. It was designated as a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai in 1989.
