The site where patriotic crowds shed blood and sacrificed their lives during the May 30th Movement is located at No. 772, East Nanjing Road, Huangpu District, dating back to May 30, 1925.

In February 1925, four thousand Chinese workers held a -- and achieved victory after a Japanese foreman beat a 12-year-old child laborer. On May 15, the Japanese merchants tore up the agreement signed with workers during the “February --,” and Gu Zhenghong, a Communist Party member who went into the factory to negotiate, was shot dead by the Japanese side, which provoked the anger of the city's residents. On May 24, over ten thousand people from Shanghai’s working, academic, and business communities attended the memorial service for martyr Gu Zhenghong. On May 28, the Central Committee of the CPC passed the resolution “On Expanding the Anti-Imperialist Movement and Organizing the ‘May 30th’ Grand ----.” On May 30, the imperialists created the shocking

incident known as the May 30th Massacre. The anti-imperialist struggle of the May 30th Movement shocked the whole nation, giving rise to a nationwide and grand-scale May 30th Movement that marked the prelude to the climax of the Great Revolution.

On April 4, 2014, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government adjusted the status of the site where patriotic crowds shed blood and sacrificed their lives during the May 30th Movement to a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit (Hu Fu Fa [2014] No. 29).
