The Wuchang Mopan Mountain Rafting site is located in Shahezi Town, 211 kilometers from Harbin. It features the famous Greater and Lesser Mopan Mountains, Shipeng Mountain, and the province’s highest peak, Datudingzi Mountain. Wuchang lies in the warm southernmost part of Heilongjiang Province at 126°44′ east longitude and 45°33′ north latitude. Mopan Mountain is surrounded by peaks, and in the valley formed by Shipeng Mountain lies the clear Lalin River. The water quality of Mopan Mountain has been tested to be comparable to the renowned Laoshan Mineral Water. As a result, the state approved the construction of the Mopan Mountain Reservoir here as part of Harbin's drinking water project.

Amidst these green mountains and clear waters, there are also many natural wonders, beautiful legends, and rich historical culture. The Lalin River, which flows between the two mountains, was originally called the Laleng River. According to elders, when Wanyan Aguda, the founding emperor of the Jin Dynasty, died in battle, his coffin was transported back to the former Jin capital through this river, hence the name Laleng, meaning “coffin river.” During the Japanese invasion of Northeast China, the river was renamed Lalin River as it was used to transport high-quality timber looted from the area. Mopan Mountain boasts abundant natural resources. The landscapes here are uniquely beautiful, and the region is rich in produce. The headwaters of Mopan Mountain are home to a unique cold-water fish species called shiyuliuyu (stone fish). Its flesh is tender and delicious. Irrigated by this “mineral water,” Wuchang rice has been rated as a nutritious rice by the American Green Food Association. Eating this rice—the only one in China to receive such an honor—while sampling the mountain delicacies of Mopan Mountain and the unpolluted aquatic products of the Lalin River offers a delightful experience that’s hard to find elsewhere.

Shahezi Town: Shahezi Town is located in the southeastern part of Wuchang City. To the south, it borders Jiaohe City in Jilin Province; to the east, it borders Hailin City; to the west, it borders Shulan City in Jilin Province; and to the north, it borders Xiangyang Town and Chonghe Town of Wuchang City. It was upgraded from a township to a town in 1985.
