Harbin Stormy Revolution Memorial Hall

The Stormy Revolution Memorial Hall was established in September 2003. It is located in Yuanbao Village, Yuanbao Town, Shangzhi City, which is also the site of the town government, about 30 kilometers from Shangzhi City. In 2005, it was designated as a Harbin Youth Patriotic Education Base by the Harbin Committee on Caring for the Next Generation.

The memorial primarily exhibits the land reform movement in the rural areas of Northeast China led by the Chinese Communist Party in 1946 — a "stormy revolution" that swept across the black soil; a magnificent political campaign that shattered thousands of years of feudal land ownership and fundamentally transformed the political and economic landscape of China’s countryside; a decisive battle that brought unprecedented change to the fate of rural China.

The famous writer Zhou Libo, drawing on his revolutionary experience participating in the land reform in Yuanmao Tun, wrote the novel “Stormy Revolution,” which is a true record of this historically significant land reform movement. To commemorate the fervent land reform movement of those years, to inherit and carry forward the revolutionary tradition, and to inspire future generations to strive for China’s rejuvenation, this memorial hall was built. The memorial also reflects the development of Yuanbao Village.

The memorial hall consists of four exhibition halls: the Land Reform Movement Exhibition Hall, the Zhou Libo Literature Room, the Yuanbao Village Exhibition Hall, and the Screening Room and Reading Room. It authentically recreates the land reform movements in Yuanmao Tun, Zhuhe County, the Northeast, and even the whole country, highlighting the glorious history of the masses of peasants fighting against the feudal landlord class and reactionary armed forces under the leadership of the Party; it also recreates the day-to-day efforts of the land reform work team in Yuanmao Tun, as well as Zhou Libo’s life and literary works.

Location: Yuanbao Village, Yuanbao Town, Shangzhi City, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province

By Bus: Take a bus from Harbin to Shangzhi City, then transfer to a shuttle bus or hire a car to the memorial hall.

By Car: Starting from Harbin, take the Sui-Man Expressway, drive 127.7 km and exit at the Shangzhi/Yanshou section. Continue straight onto Yingbin Avenue for 2.3 km, then get on S203. Take the third exit and turn right onto Shangkai Highway. Drive 25.4 km, turn left, go 120 meters, then turn right and drive 300 meters to reach the destination.
