Holly Garden

The Holly Garden is located on the western side of Huoshaoshan Mountain. It is an independently managed area covering approximately 2,500 square meters and also serves as a unique bonsai garden within a garden. Its natural environment is primitive, rustic, and full of delightful charm. Every piece of volcanic rock here presents a scenic view, and every tree offers endless intrigue and observation. Particularly near the low-lying valley area, upon closer inspection, the rocks resemble the Taihu stones found in Suzhou gardens—exquisitely carved and perfectly placed, leaving nothing to be desired. Even the pathways, scenic rocks, and the proportional arrangement of trees are remarkably well-balanced. Within the garden, you can see uniquely shaped "Coiling Snake Birch" and the awe-inspiring "Weathered Poplar," among others. Most of these trees are around a hundred years old, serving as living specimens in the virgin plant display area following the latest volcanic eruption—extremely precious. The ancient trees and deadwood all bear the rings of time and history.

In winter, visitors can see clusters of small shrubs bearing fruit resembling grapes from Xinjiang. These are hollies, which parasitize on birch and poplar trees, sprouting fresh green leaves and bearing bright red and orange-yellow fruits. They are the pride of the cold winter, standing fearlessly against the wind and snow, just like pine trees, wintersweet, and snow lotus. When the land is frozen, these clusters of holly nurture boundless vitality. This place is also a winter attraction known as the "Holly Garden." This plant is known in traditional Chinese medicine as mistletoe. According to *Compendium of Materia Medica*, it has the effects of dispelling rheumatism, strengthening bones and muscles, calming the fetus, and nourishing blood. It comes in three colors—red, golden yellow, and emerald green—hanging in clusters on the trees, crystal clear and lovely to behold.
