Daqing Songji No. 3 Well Memorial Park

In September 1958, the Songliao Petroleum Exploration Bureau first proposed drilling the "Songji No. 3 Well" at the "Datongzhen Electric Method Uplift" in Zhaozhou County, next to which lies a small village called Gaotaizi.

The drilling team commenced operations there on April 11, 1959, and starting from a depth of 1,050 meters, they successively extracted core samples of fine sandstone and siltstone from six well sections, all of which showed signs of oil staining and oil-bearing phenomena. After careful study by experts present and those who rushed to the site, it was decisively decided to conduct an oil test using the original drill. By 4:00 PM on September 26, 1959, the Songji No. 3 Well spewed out industrial-grade oil flow, thus opening a new chapter in the history of China’s petroleum industry.

The current Songji No. 3 Well Monument is located at the Fifth Oil Production Plant. It was rebuilt on September 26, 1989, by the China National Petroleum Corporation to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the Daqing Oilfield. The inscription on the monument, written by the late petroleum industry leader and former member of the Central Advisory Commission Kang Shien, reads: "Discovery Well of the Daqing Oilfield – Songji No. 3 Well."

In 1990, the Songji No. 3 Well was designated as a municipal-level youth education base by the Daqing Municipal People's Government; in 2001, it was listed as part of the fifth group of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, becoming the youngest national cultural relic; in April 2004, it was recognized as a Corporate Spirit Education Base by the China National Petroleum Corporation; and in June 2005, it was rated as a fourth batch provincial-level patriotic education base by the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Government.

By Bus: Take bus No. 101 within Daqing City to Datong District, then transfer to a taxi or book a chartered car to reach the site.

By Car: From Daqing, take G45 Da-Guang Expressway, drive 25.6 km, exit the expressway, turn right and head northwest for 6.4 km, then turn left onto Sadazhong Road and drive 16.7 km, turn right onto Gaowu Road, drive 5.6 km, then enter Route 086 and drive 149 meters to reach the destination.
