Daqing No. 1 Oil Well

Daqing No. 1 Oil Well is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Located between Gaotaizi Village and Xiaoxi Village in the southwest of Gaotaizi Town, Datong District, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. In February 1958, the Ministry of Petroleum conducted a geological survey of the Songliao Plain. In November of the same year, the Ministry approved the drilling of Daqing’s first oil well. On September 26, 1959, the well struck oil with a joyful gush. From then on, China shed the label of having a backward petroleum industry and ended its history as a poor oil country. Starting in 1960, the Daqing Oil Battle was launched, leading to the construction of a world-class advanced large oilfield. This oil well is a historical testament to the Daqing Oil Battle and also a major symbol of the achievements of New China’s petroleum industry, as well as the Daqing Spirit and Iron Man Spirit.

Gaotaizi Town: Located in the southwest of the Songnen Plain, 11 kilometers from the district government, at 124°47′ east longitude and 46°02′ north latitude. Gaotaizi Town borders the Eighth Oil Production Plant of Daqing Oilfield Company to the south, Huanneng Xinhua Power Generation Co., Ltd. of Daqing to the west, and the border of Anda City to the east. The town covers a total area of 243 square kilometers, governs 7 administrative villages and 59 natural villages, with a total of 5,984 households and a population of 27,900, including 22,364 agricultural residents and 13,919 laborers.
