Jilin Mapan Mountain

Mapan Mountain, also known as Little Mapan Mountain, is located in Wangxiang Village, Qian’erdao Township, Fengman District. It is 15 kilometers from the city center and covers a total area of 10 square kilometers. The summit of Mapan Mountain is shaped like a millstone, hence its name. The mountain stretches from north to south, with peaks on both ends facing each other — the southern side features a long, flat peak, while the northern side has a sharp, pointed peak. The main peak on the northern side stands at an elevation of 783.8 meters. Mapan Mountain features steep terrain. Its peaks are uniquely shaped, the rocks are picturesque, and the forests are dense. Wolves, snakes, foxes, pheasants, and hazel grouse are often seen here. The area is rich in wildlife and plants such as kiwi berries, wild grapes, Chinese hawthorn berries, walnuts, Northeast China Arisaema, ferns, hazel mushrooms, schisandra berries, amur cork tree, afungus, bone-penetrating herb, cocklebur, balloon flower, and mountain yam. Within the rocky outcrops on the mountainside, there are also natural caves such as the Dripping Water Cave and the Fox Fairy Cave. The mountain is home to the Buddhist temple Wandev Temple. It is steeped in beautiful and mystical legends and was a place of flourishing religious activity during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
