Museum of the Ming and Qing Dynasty Shipyard Ruins

The Museum of the Ming and Qing Dynasty Shipyard Ruins in Jilin City is located at 9 kilometers along Jifeng East Road, Fengman District, Jilin City, Jilin Province. It faces the Songhua River and is backed by undulating mountain ranges. As an archaeological site museum under the administration of the national cultural relics department, it was formerly known as the Jilin Ming and Qing Shipyard Historical Exhibition Hall. In October 2012, the Jilin Municipal Organization and Staffing Committee officially approved the establishment of the Museum of the Ming and Qing Dynasty Shipyard Ruins in Jilin City.

Museum Facilities:

The museum covers an area of 260 square meters, with a building area of 220 square meters and an exhibition hall of 77 square meters.

Historical Background:

In 1990, the "Report on Protective Measures for the Ashihada Cliff Stone Carvings" from the Suburban Cultural Relics Management Office of Jilin City was submitted to the Municipal Construction Commission. On September 1, approval was granted. The Jilin Provincial Highway Bureau invested 98,100 yuan, with the design by the Jilin City Architectural Design Institute and construction carried out by the Jilin City Longtan Third Construction Company. The Suburban Cultural Relics Management Office of Jilin City conducted the acceptance inspection. A 113-square-meter guardhouse and an iron fence measuring 2.3 meters in height and 160 meters in length were built, and the stone carvings were enclosed with protective glass covers. At the same time, a historical exhibition hall was established.

In 2002, the Jilin City Cultural Relics Management Office submitted a funding request report titled "Regarding the Establishment of the Jilin Ming and Qing Shipyard Historical Exhibition Hall," which was submitted to the Jilin City Finance Bureau. After approval, 80,000 yuan was allocated. The Jilin City Cultural Relics Management Office handled the content design, the Jilin Confucius Temple Museum handled the form design, and the Jilin City Culture Bureau conducted the acceptance inspection. The "Jilin Ming and Qing Shipyard Historical Exhibition Hall" was established and officially opened to the public in October 2002, managed by the Jilin City Cultural Relics Management Office. Hazardous rocks on the cliffs were periodically cleared each year.

In 2004, the Jilin City Cultural Relics Management Office conducted a comprehensive renovation of the historical exhibition room, redid the roof waterproofing, built a public toilet, renovated the reception room, and installed heating equipment. The "Ashi Pavilion" and "Cliff Pavilion" were repainted, and hazardous rocks on the mountain were cleared.

In 2004, an application was made to designate it as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. On May 25, 2006, the State Council announced it as part of the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

In 2009, the Jilin City Culture Bureau transferred management authority to the Jilin City Museum.

In 2010, the Jilin City Culture Bureau removed the wall around the exhibition hall to facilitate free access and make it easier for visitors to tour.

In 2010, the PLA General Armaments Department's Academy of Engineering Research conducted a survey of the Ashihada Cliff Stone Carvings. The Chinese National Cultural Heritage Research Institute developed a protection plan and submitted it to the National Cultural Relics Bureau for approval.

On October 21, 2012, the Jilin Municipal Organization and Staffing Committee officially approved the establishment of the Museum of the Ming and Qing Dynasty Shipyard Ruins in Jilin City, under the jurisdiction of the Jilin City Culture Bureau.

In 2014, the Museum of the Ming and Qing Dynasty Shipyard Ruins in Jilin City constructed new auxiliary facilities such as offices and flush toilets.
