Siping Shanmen Volcanic Geological Park

A provincial-level geological park and nature reserve. Located between Shanmen Town and Yehuo Town in the southeastern part of Siping City, Jilin Province. The Beijing–Harbin, Changchun–Tonghua, Changchun–Tumen, Pingqi, and Siping–Meihekou railway lines, as well as the Changchun–Dalian Expressway, National Highways 102, 103, and 303, all lead to Siping. The park is 7 kilometers from Siping City and features geomorphological landscapes primarily shaped by tectonic denudation.

Siping Shanmen Volcanic Geological Park is a comprehensive scenic area known for its geological wonders, complemented by natural and cultural attractions. The rhyolite columnar jointing in the area mainly consists of upright, medium-to-small-scale columns, predominantly pentagonal, forming a typical spectacle where an entire lava mound is composed entirely of rhyolite prisms. It also features unique characteristics such as double-layered columnar arrangements and cyclical banding. Cultural sites include the Banla Shanmen Ancient Cultural Ruins and the Yehuo Nara Ancient City Ruins. The total area of the park is 17.5 square kilometers. Major attractions include the Erlang Mountain Scenic Area Pyroclastic Flow, Yuejiagangzi Lava Mound, Lazibendi Lava Flow, Shanmen Scenic Area, Gudong Marble Karst Cave, Wolong Large Silver Mine, and Zhuanshan Lake Scenic Area.

Lazibendi East Mountain: Dominated by pentagonal prismatic rock formations, its steep cliffs and perilous peaks are densely packed with slender stone columns, resembling a massive curtain of rain cascading from the sky. The strikingly upright jade-like pillars rise like swords piercing the heavens, creating a grand and majestic spectacle.

Erlang Mountain Scenic Area Pyroclastic Flow: A rhyolitic tuff containing volcanic bombs, lapilli, and lava breccia. The flow structures are highly developed, especially where volcanic bombs and lapilli are densely arranged. The directional alignment and flow patterns formed by differently sized and composed lava breccia create exceptionally beautiful patterns, offering high aesthetic value.

Lazibendi Lava Flow: The columnar jointing appears as thick, short columns and banded structures, displaying a riot of colors like a suspended colorful ribbon, transporting visitors into a dreamlike, otherworldly realm.

Shanmen Town: Shanmen Town, under the jurisdiction of Tiedong District, Siping City, is located 3 kilometers southeast of Siping City. It borders Lishu County of Jilin Province to the east and Changtu County of Liaoning Province to the west. The town covers a total area of 181.7 square kilometers and has 13 administrative villages and one neighborhood committee under its government. The town has a population of 29,000.

The area enjoys convenient transportation with roads leading in all directions. City buses run directly to the town, and the Shenyang–Changchun Expressway passes through it.
