Former Residence of Yun Dong-ju

The former residence of Yun Dong-ju is a cultural tourism attraction.

Yun Dong-ju was a renowned poet of the Chinese Korean ethnic group. He was born in December 1917 into a family of teachers in Mingdong Village, Longjing City, Jilin Province. He studied successively at Mingdong Primary School, Dalazi Han Primary School, Enzhin Middle School, Chongshi Middle School, and Guangming Middle School. At the age of 22, he went to Yonhi College in Seoul, Korea, to study literature. After graduation, he traveled to Japan and subsequently studied English at Rikkyo University in Tokyo and Doshisha University in Kyoto. In March 1943, he was arrested by Japanese police and sentenced to two years in prison on charges of participating in the anti-Japanese national independence movement. He suffered brutal treatment under Japanese imperialism in prison and ultimately died in Fukuoka Prison, Japan, in February 1945 at the young age of 28. His remains were brought back to his hometown of Longjing by his father and buried in Dongshan Cemetery. His former residence is located in Mingdong Village, Longjing City, attracting large numbers of visitors every year.
