Longjing Well

Longjing Well is located at the intersection of Longjing Street and Liudaogou in present-day Longjing City.

In the late 19th century, Korean settlers Zhang Renshuo and Park In-yeon discovered an ancient well about 60 meters northeast of the intersection of Longjing Street and Liudaogou in what is now Longjing City. The well water was cool and sweet, so the settlers erected a “well sweep,” known as the “Dragon Bucket.” Later, the people of Liudaogou named their village “Longjing Village.”

After many changes, in 1934, to commemorate the origin of the name Longjing, Li Jixie and others initiated the erection of a stone stele beside the well inscribed with the nine characters: “Well Spring — the Origin of the Name Longjing.”
