View Three Nations

View Three Nations is located within the Fangchuan National Key Scenic Area, at the junction of China, Russia, and North Korea. It is 63.6 kilometers from the city center.

Standing on the viewing platform and looking south, the Tumen River flows gently into the distance, with the Russia–North Korea Railway Bridge spanning across it. Gazing along the river, you can see where the river meets the sea—a spectacular sight. Turning southwest, you’ll see rolling hills in Hoeryong City, North Korea, with lush willows and blue rivers. Looking southeast, the Russian town of Khasan’s Podgornaya settlement lies just within view. Further ahead lies a vast coastal plain dotted with lakes and marshes. At the edge of the plain, the deep blue Sea of Japan stretches to the horizon, resembling a silver ribbon floating against the sky. Here, visitors can take in the breathtaking panorama of mountains embracing the sea, the ocean encompassing all streams, the boundless expanse of the sky, and the exquisite beauty of the land.

Fangchuan Village: Located in Fangchuan Town, about 70 kilometers south of Hunchun City, Fangchuan Village sits at the foot of Zhanggu Peak and is the lowest point in Jilin Province. A few kilometers ahead stands the “Tǔ” character boundary marker, erected in 1886 under the supervision of Wu Dacheng, an imperial envoy of the Qing government, and Russian representative Baron Pavel Nikolaevich Balonov. From here, it is only 15 kilometers to the mouth of the Tumen River, where you can gaze out toward the Sea of Japan. Climbing the watchtower on a nearby hilltop, you can see the misty Sea of Japan stretching to the horizon. Closer views reveal the landscapes of all three countries—China, North Korea, and Russia.
