Dong Paotai is located in Paotai Village, Machuanzi Township, approximately 9 li southeast of Hunchun City. The site is surrounded by residential areas of local residents. The fort is oval in shape, built with rammed "lime-soil" mixture, standing about 6 meters high. It measures 100 meters from east to west and 70 meters from north to south. There is one gun emplacement each on the east, south, and west sides, each circular in shape with a circumference of about 70 meters. Outside the fort is a moat approximately 9 meters wide, which still holds water. About 2 li to the east and west of the fort are square earthen walls, each about 100 meters in length, which are the ruins of barracks where the Jingbian Army was stationed at the time. Dong Paotai was originally built in the seventh year of the Guangxu reign (1881 AD).
