China Korean Ethnic Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall

The China Korean Ethnic Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall is a joint construction project with the Tumen Children’s Palace. It adopts a design philosophy that combines traditional, modern, and royal elements. The entire building covers a land area of 5,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 6,800 square meters, of which the intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall area is 3,000 square meters, the exhibition hall area is 1,280 square meters, and the small theater area is 311 square meters, capable of accommodating around 150 visitors for performances simultaneously. The Tumen Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall is currently the only thematic exhibition hall dedicated to the intangible cultural heritage of the Korean ethnic group in China, bringing together intangible cultural heritage items of all levels of the Korean ethnic group in China. The hall displays 52 intangible cultural heritage items across 8 major categories at various levels, including 11 national-level, 26 provincial-level, 8 prefectural-level, and 7 municipal (county)-level items.

Among these, there is one national-level item from Liaoning Province — the “Qili Dance,” and one provincial-level item from Heilongjiang Province — the “Liutou Festival.” Tumen City exhibits 19 intangible cultural heritage items, accounting for 35% of the total displayed items.

The mission of the Tumen Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall is to protect and pass on the ancient intangible cultural heritage of the Chinese Korean ethnic group, using strong cultural influence to drive the development of tourism in Tumen. The first floor of the exhibition hall mainly showcases Korean ethnic dances, including the Changgo dance and the Sangmo dance; the second floor focuses primarily on folk customs, featuring Korean ethnic costumes, a traditional etiquette area, and a regional cuisine section.

The small theater in the hall offers captivating folk song and dance performances for visitors to enjoy. In the experience area, visitors can dress in traditional attire, play the changgo drum, or try on a sangmo hat for commemorative photos. In the regional cuisine section, guests can sample traditional Korean snacks and rice wine, while the merchandise area sells a variety of Korean ethnic handicrafts. The outdoor exhibition area features Korean traditional swings, seesaws, and wrestling — where visitors can both watch and take part.
