Shenyang Central Temple

The Shenyang Central Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Central Temple is located at the northeast corner of the back wall of the Shenyang Imperial Palace. It has been designated by the Shenyang Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics as an "Immovable Cultural Relic of Shenyang."

The Central Temple was originally built in the 21st year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1388), making it a contemporary structure of the Ming Zhongwei City. The temple derives its name from its location at the center of the east-west and north-south cross streets within the Ming Zhongwei City. At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty's establishment of Shenyang as its capital, the old Ming city was used to build the imperial palace, and the cross streets were transformed into a grid-like pattern, but the temple remained at the city’s center. It covers less than half an acre and enshrines a statue of the sage Guan Yu. Originally, the temple was flanked by four auxiliary shrines dedicated to the City God, the God of Wealth, the Mountain God, and the Earth God, though these no longer exist. By the late Qing Dynasty, the temple had fallen into disrepair but was restored in 1938, and a commemorative stele was erected, which is now housed in the Beita Stele Forest. In ancient times, the Central Temple was built to invite good fortune and ward off misfortune, with the hope that the deities would bless people with safety.
