Shangmashi Site

The Shangmashi Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Liaoning Province.

The Shangmashi Site is located in Sanguanmiao Village, Dachangshan Island Town, Changhai County, Dalian.

The Shangmashi Shell Mound was investigated and excavated in 1941 by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science. Participants in the investigation and excavation included Sueji Umehara and Masakazu Sumita from Kyoto University, Haruto Hasebe from the University of Tokyo, as well as Sadahiko Shimada and Osamu Mori from the Lüshun Museum. In October 1978, archaeological excavations were carried out in the Dalian area. The site is divided into three layers: the lower layer dating back approximately 6,000 years, another lower layer about 4,000 years ago, and the upper layer about 3,000 years ago. The urn burial tombs at the site date back to around 3,400 years ago.

Protected area: Within 10 meters east, 90 meters south, 125 meters west, and 30 meters north of the site’s protection marker.

Construction control zone: A first-class construction control zone extends 20 meters beyond the protected area, and a second-class construction control zone extends 200 meters beyond the first-class zone.
