Pulandian Gaoming Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Gaoming Temple is situated in Nangou, Guangdefu, Shabao Town, Pulandian, within Baiyun Mountain. The mountain is frequently veiled in clouds and mist, with white clouds lingering around it. Whenever mountain rain is imminent, fog wraps around the mid-slopes, resembling drifting white clouds—thus earning the name "Baiyun Mountain." The mountain range connects with the peaks of Shabao, Lianshan, Datan, and Yuantai, winding and undulating for tens of miles. The mountain features dense crowns of Korean pine trees that soar high into the sky. The lush forests, babbling mountain streams, vibrant autumn foliage, and snow-dusted mountain ridges present distinct sceneries in each season. With a cool climate, it is an ideal scenic spot for sightseeing and summer retreat.

Legend has it that during Emperor Taizong of Tang’s eastern campaign, ancient military relics such as sections of the Great Wall and beacon towers were built atop the mountain peaks. These structures are now largely well-preserved. On the northern slope of the mountain, within a mountain bay, lies Yinma Bay, believed to be a former site where soldiers watered their war horses (evidenced today by an ancient well).

Gaoming Temple faces east and is built against the mountain, surrounded by peaks on all sides and covered in lush greenery. As you ascend the mountain path step by step, the temple gradually comes into view, nestled among verdant pines and cypresses, and intricately embedded within the overlapping ridges and secluded valleys. The halls are arranged step by step, staggered and terraced, constructed with brick, stone, and cement, topped with gray-tiled flush-gable and hip-and-gable roofs. The temple features yellow walls and red gates, presenting a majestic and solemn appearance with varying heights, interplay of light and shadow, and exquisitely lifelike Buddha statues inside the halls. The structure rises progressively with the terrain, appearing dignified and ancient. Following the mountain’s contour, it boasts a uniquely charming design that evokes a sense of seclusion along winding paths. The temple follows the Linji school of Buddhism.
