Cliff Carvings at Wanghaisi Temple

The cliff carvings at Wanghaisi Temple are a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The cliff carvings at Wanghaisi Temple are situated on the rocky cliffs of the southern slope of Heshangmao Mountain in Shuangta Town, Pulandian City. There are a total of 17 carvings of different sizes, the largest measuring 74 centimeters. Aside from one carving missing its head and another with decorative elements on the head, the other 15 are all arhat figures, each uniquely shaped. In the middle of the cliff, there is an intaglio inscription that reads “Six figures made in July of the third year of the Dading era by monk Yixuan and craftsman Li Shan.” Originally, Wanghaisi Temple was located to the south of the cliff carvings, from which the carvings derive their name. The Wanghaisi Temple cliff carvings hold significant value for the study of the spread of Buddhism in modern times and the art of religious sculpture.

Designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit in 1988.
