The Site of the Han Dynasty City in Zhangdian is located in Zhangdian Village, Hu'ershan, Tiexi Subdistrict, Pulandian City, Dalian.

In 1972, the Han Dynasty ruins in Zhangdian, Pulandian, were discovered during an archaeological survey. The site is 5 kilometers from downtown Pulandian and has yielded a wealth of precious artifacts from the Warring States and Western and Eastern Han dynasties, including horseshoe-shaped gold ingots, gilded copper deer-shaped coins, “Thousand Autumns, Ten Thousand Years” roof tiles, and the seal of the Linhui Commandery. Wang Yulang believes that the Zhangdian Han city ruins in Pulandian had the conditions to gather a large population and best fit the characteristics of the ancient Canghai Commandery. The horseshoe-shaped and deer-hoof-shaped gold ingots unearthed there are both treasures used for imperial blessings and rewards. The “Thousand Autumns, Ten Thousand Years” roof tiles, the “Linhui Commandery Seal” clay seal, and the gilded copper deer-shaped coins were also items used by nobles of commandery rank, further proving the high status of the Zhangdian Han city.

As a famous city of the Han Dynasty, the exact location of the Canghai Commandery has long been debated in academic circles both in China and abroad. According to historical texts such as the “Book of Han · Biography of Emperor Wu,” in 128 BCE, King Nanlü of the “Hui State” led 280,000 people to surrender to Emperor Wu of Han, who then resettled them in the Liaodong region and established the Canghai Commandery.

Many experts have stated that identifying the Zhangdian Han city as the Western Han Canghai Commandery holds significant meaning and value, particularly for enhancing the cultural profile of Dalian, which is of immeasurable importance.
