Fengcheng Kuixing Tower and Confucius Temple Archway

Kuixing Tower and Confucius Temple Archway

The Kuixing Tower and Confucius Temple Archway are located at the southeastern corner of Fengcheng No. 1 Middle School campus. They were part of the Qing Dynasty architectural complex that included the Fengcheng Confucian Temple, Wenchang Palace, and Qifeng Academy. Construction began in 1877 and was completed the following year. The structure features an octagonal, double-eaved wooden frame with a treasure top, built using mortise-and-tenon techniques in two tiers, topped with glazed tiles. It is divided into three parts: the base platform, wooden framework, and roof. The entire pavilion stands 17.92 meters tall, with a spiral wooden staircase connecting the two levels. On the second floor, there was originally a statue of the Kuixing deity—depicted with a blue face, red hair, long beard, holding ink in the left hand and a brush in the right, standing in a golden rooster pose. Until the early years of the People’s Republic of China, the Kuixing Tower remained the tallest building in Fengcheng town.

Protected area: The protected area of the Kuixing Tower includes the area within the surrounding wall. For the Confucius Temple Archway, the protected area extends 15 meters outward from the base of the archway on all four sides.

Construction control zone: A secondary construction control zone extends 15 meters beyond the protected area; a tertiary construction control zone extends 30 meters beyond the secondary zone; and a quaternary construction control zone extends 55 meters beyond the tertiary zone.
