Liujiabao City Site

The Liujiabao City Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Liaoning Province.

The Liujiabao City Site is located in Liujiabaozi, Limin Village, Fengshan Township, 8 kilometers southwest of Fengcheng Town, Fengcheng County. To the north lie gently undulating hills that curve slightly; to the east, about 1,500 meters away, are the Erlong Mountains; to the south are open farmlands, with the Fengxian Highway running from east to west along the southern edge of the village, and the Erlong River flowing from west to east just north of the highway; to the west are rolling hills.

The site is an earthen-walled structure facing south, but the walls have been severely damaged. Only the western section shows slight remnants of the city wall, visible as raised earthen ridges. Based on the distribution of scattered pottery fragments and the stratified accumulation of cultural layers, it is determined to be a square-shaped city site, approximately 500 meters long from north to south and 500 meters wide from east to west, covering a total area of 250,000 square meters.

The cultural layers are clearly visible in the cross-section at the central-western part of the site, revealing three distinct strata: the first layer is cultivated soil, 30–40 cm thick, mixed with Han Dynasty pottery shards and fragments of Liao Dynasty pottery and porcelain; the second layer is yellow-brown soil, 60 cm thick, containing a large accumulation of rope-patterned roof tiles, cloud-patterned tile ends, and rims of pottery vessels; the third layer is the natural subsoil.

Based on historical documents and the mutual corroboration of relics and remains, the Liujiabao City Site is believed to be the ancient site of Wuci County. It was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site on December 20, 1988.
