Nanchengzi Reservoir

Nanchengzi Reservoir is a large-scale reservoir directly under the Municipal Water Resources Bureau. It is located in Nanchengzi Village, Weiyuanbao Town, Kaiyuan City, 2 kilometers from the Liaokai Line and 35 kilometers from downtown Kaiyuan. After the 2000–2003 reinforcement project for disaster prevention, the reservoir passed its final acceptance inspection in October 2003. The flood control standard was raised from the original 10-year frequency to a 50-year frequency. The reservoir is designed to supply 50,000 tons of water per day for urban use in Changtu, with an actual supply of 20,000 tons per day. The construction of the ecological park below the dam and various scenic spots was completed on May 18, 2004.

The new Nanchengzi Reservoir Tourism, Vacation, Leisure, and Entertainment Center building is planned to be constructed between the water conveyance tunnel and the spillway on the west side of the reservoir dam, covering an area of 15,000 square meters with a built-up area of 2,000 square meters.

Once completed, the center will be able to accommodate tourists for accommodation, dining, entertainment, bathing, and health care. The reservoir currently has a water surface area of 1,463 hectares above the dam, with 15 various types of boats, 1 cruise ship, and 4 speedboats and motorboats; below the dam, there are fish ponds covering 8 hectares, 1 garden park, and a 16-hectare green fruit-picking garden. The mountains feature 6.7 hectares of orchards and 100 hectares of forest, offering opportunities for fishing and sightseeing—making it an ideal destination for tourism, leisure, and vacation. It is expected to generate considerable economic benefits with promising market prospects.
