Longtan Temple Mountain Fortress

Longtan Temple Mountain Fortress is a cultural heritage site protected by Liaoning Province.

Longtan Temple Mountain Fortress is located on Longtan Mountain, north of Chenjia Village, Weiyuan Township, Kaiyuan City. Covering an area of approximately 30,000 square meters, it was formed by connecting seven peaks of Longtan Mountain with earthen walls. The fortress has a gate at the southeast gap, with a drainage channel beside it. Inside the fortress, relics such as red rope-patterned roof tiles, iron knives, and iron arrowheads have been found.

The Seven-Ding Longtan Temple within the fortress was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736–1795). The temple is named for being surrounded by seven peaks and a clear pond, and it is renowned across Northeast China as a famous temple in Liaobei. The mountain fortress consists of the Border City Scenic Area, Longtan Temple Scenic Area, and Nancheng Reservoir Scenic Area. The surroundings of Longtan Mountain Fortress are extraordinarily magical — the mountain features seven peaks embracing it like a ring, with only a gap on the east side where a gate was built for access. Scenic spots such as “Twin Ponds Reflecting the Moon,” “Strange and Wondrous Sights,” “Thousand-Hand Buddha,” and “Summer Lotus” are all breathtaking. On the temple fair day of the 18th day of the fourth lunar month alone, hundreds of thousands of visitors and worshippers come to pay their respects. Climbing to the summit of the Seven-Ding Longtan, one can gaze out at the dancing mountains and picturesque green fields, feeling as if in a fairyland — a truly refreshing experience. Today, only structures such as the mountain gate and the Great Buddha Hall remain.
