Former Site of Jingjingliao

The former site of Jingjingliao is a cultural heritage protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The former site of Jingjingliao is located at No. 58, Wuyi Road, Tiedong District, Anshan City, Liaoning Province. It was once the staff dormitory of the "Showa Steel Works" and is currently part of the Wuyi Road mobile phone market. During the third national cultural relics census’ special survey on industrial heritage, it was included in the industrial heritage list. According to the Annals of Anshan Construction Projects, the site was built in 1920 as a dormitory for Japanese employees, featuring a Russian-style architectural design. According to the Twenty-Year History of the Showa Steel Works, the building was constructed by the "Tokyo Construction Company." After the liberation, Jingjingliao was used as the first staff dormitory of Anshan Iron and Steel Group. Originally, there were three similar buildings, but only this one remains. It covers a total area of 3,163 square meters, with three floors above ground and one underground, and is of brick-concrete structure.

Experts from Beijing have visited Anshan multiple times to study the building and found that it exhibits strong characteristics of the Russian Art Nouveau movement. The building was constructed in the early 20th century as a dormitory for workers of the Chinese Eastern Railway, originally built by Tsarist Russia. After the Japanese invaders entered Anshan, the building was repurposed as a dormitory for the "Showa Steel Works." It later became the first staff dormitory of Anshan Iron and Steel Group. In the 1990s, the site was turned into a mobile communication products market, known as the Wuyi Road Mobile Phone Market, and to this day it houses businesses dealing in mobile communication equipment.

Originally, there were three similar buildings, but only this one remains. Experts say that this building is relatively well-preserved and has witnessed the history of Japanese imperialism’s invasion of Anshan and the plundering of its steel resources, giving it certain historical value.
