Last updated 2026-09-25 — We heard about the very popular Abao Soy Milk Shop on Zuoying Boulevard. It all started when my husband casually went out for a late-night snack and stumbled upon the shop’s exact location by chance, then later brought me along. We heard about the very popular Abao Soy Milk Shop on Zuoying Boulevard. It all started when my husband casually went out for a late-night snack and stumbled upon the shop’s exact location by chance, then later brought me along. Late-night eateries like this have always been out of our reach — we rarely eat after dinner. But to try the supposedly amazing traditional Chinese breakfast, we broke our long-standing rule of avoiding late-night meals.

Abao Soy Milk Shop is considered an old establishment and is somewhat well-known locally. While most shops close at night, this one is the busiest. We arrived around 9 p.m., and there were already plenty of people waiting to eat. The place was lively and bustling.

Taking advantage of the fact that there are many night owls in Kaohsiung who enjoy late-night snacks, more and more shops similar to breakfast joints are operating as late-night eateries.

The shop’s omelet pancake is highly recommended by many. Here, the pancake is made by mixing batter from scratch and frying it, not using pre-made omelet wrappers, which is exciting.

Ordering is self-service — you check off your choices on the menu and then place your order at the counter.

Hot Dog Scrambled Eggs – NT$35

The hot dog looks ordinary, but thanks to the chef’s perfect control of the heat, the eggs are super fragrant and delicious. The hot dog wrapped inside the eggs is really tasty.

Tempura – NT$40

The fish cake slices are crispy and make a satisfying “crunch” sound when you bite into them. The Taiwanese-style pickles aren’t as good as we expected — they’re crunchy, but not to our taste.

Preserved Radish Omelet Pancake – NT$40

The generous-sized preserved radish omelet pancake is said to be a fan favorite. Last time, my husband got one to go and brought it home for me — I still remember how impressive it was.

The handmade batter makes the pancake skin incomparable to factory-made ones. The thick skin wraps around the savory preserved radish. The soft pancake contrasts with the crispy radish, creating an unexpectedly delicious flavor combo — a must-try.

Pickle Omelet Pancake – NT$45

Made with the same batter, this pancake is filled with pickles. Apparently, this is another popular choice.

Compared to eating pickles on their own, wrapping them in the pancake seems to make them tastier — with the egg’s richness and the tangy pickles, it’s a creative twist.

Soy Milk – NT$15, Black Tea – NT$20

The soy milk is rich and aromatic, with just the right level of sweetness. The classic-style black tea has a strong nostalgic flavor.

The shop’s homemade dipping sauce, made with scallions and chili, is delicious when drizzled on the pancakes.

Abao Soy Milk’s omelet pancakes live up to the hype. Made with handmade batter, they’re hearty, delicious, and totally worth a late-night trip to satisfy your cravings. These late-night diner-style breakfast shops are becoming more common, showing that Kaohsiung has no shortage of night owls. For those who can’t eat late, you can still enjoy hot breakfast in the morning. We recommend these tasty and affordable late-night-to-morning eats.
